Hey folks, while it is true we are HURTLING towards the doors opening on Friday of next week, 6 Days and 20 something hours, if you see something on the website that is missing or doesn’t make sense, let us know.
We updated our ALL EVENTS SCHEDULE page last night but we did miss some areas and are still fixing some areas. We probably announced that too soon, BUT letting people see the new page has helped us find 3 corrections needing to be made.
So if you see something that is missing, or needs changing, please let us know.
We’ve had some confusion expressed over our statement about “No Visitor Passes for Year 9” — we’ll shed some light on that. http://springfieldgame.com/project/individual-registration/
We spend all year as volunteers preparing for G.A.M.E. EXPO and about $8,000. We get support from sponsors and the sale of spaces for Exhibitors, Creators, Club & Orgs, etc, BUT our biggest amount of funds that help make the event happen are INDIVIDUALS coming to G.A.M.E. EXPO. If it weren’t for the individual person coming to game and paying for a Weekend or Day Badge, we could not continue to have this event.
In the past we’ve allowed people that were just checking us out to pop in for a bit and we asked they give a $5 donation for a 2 hour visitor pass. The theory being that these people would upgrade to a full day pass or these people would go in to our vendors and buy something and support our vendors / exhibitors / creators / artist.
Last year we experienced a HUGE amount of people that looked at the registration list and would say “Oh, $5 option? I’ll take that!” We’d explain it was just a 2 hour pass, and typically the response was kind of “Yah, Yah. Here’s my $5, let me in.” Then, numerous times we found people in G.A.M.E. that had been there … all day …. for $5.
We also did not notice people that took the cheapest rate to get in, buying stuff from vendors. If we had seen people leaving with purchases, then we would consider a “shoppers pass.” Generally, people that support the convention pay for a weekend / day pass and then ALSO shop with our vendors.
We don’t want to be the fun police, running around checking badges, telling people to leave — times up — get out. We don’t have enough staff to do that, and we don’t want to be that kind of place. We also don’t want this event to be degraded by lots of people getting in for $5 when others paid $20, $25, $30. It’s not fair.
Also, there are no other events similar to ours where we found a visitors pass policy. We looked around, and to get into any other event similar to ours, you pay for a day pass or a weekend pass.
So, our decision has been to get rid of this visitors pass. Now, to end confusion, you DO NOT HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER. You can walk up to the doors all day long and buy a weekend pass, or a day pass. Registration is open Friday 10AM to 11:59PM, Saturday 8:30AM to 11:59PM and Sunday from 8:30AM to 4:00PM.
Hopefully this sheds some light.
What time can we get in? What time does registration open? What time does everything close?
These sorts of answers can be found on our overview schedule: http://springfieldgame.com/project/overview-schedule/
Something WE HAVE TWEAKED … normally we don’t plan on any activities beginning until 12PM on Friday, but we had some eager GMs ready to start running games on Friday at 10AM. So … soon as we get registration open at 10AM (maybe a few minutes earlier) you can zip right inside and get into some games! Yeah!!
If you were wondering …. “When is G.A.M.E. EXPO Year 9?” …. first … crawl out from under the rock … then … look at our website and Facebook pages. LOL! It’s right there. :-D. 7 days to go, and yes, we get these questions. 😀
We’ve retooled our events schedule so that each category of events have their own page. Turns out when you have 150+ events it freaks out the plug-in, with the way we wanted them displayed. So, now when you go to the ALL EVENTS SCHEDULE page you’ll see a series of buttons to dive into specific categories. If you have any questions / concerns / issues — please let us know.
Exhibitors, Creators, Clubs & Orgs — BRING YOUR OWN EXTENSION CORDS to G.A.M.E. next week. Please. For the event as a whole we have some but they will be used for; Electronic Gaming, Concessions, Registration, The Lair, Gaming HQ, Media Room, etc. We have a lot of areas that will need the cords WE BRING.
There are outlets on every column and the walls so power can be reached, but you need to bring your OWN cord. Might need a LONG cord in some cases. Be prepared.
We will have rolls of tape at Registration that you can use — and BRING BACK (or we will hunt you down). We want to make sure that ALL CORDS TAPED DOWN. Even if they run behind your tables or booth area, please TAPE DOWN YOUR CORDS. Thanks.
